The Salopian Open

The Salopian Open is back at the Gateway Gallery.

This bi-annual open competition exhibition has no set theme and welcomes work in all media, from drawing and painting to printmaking, 3D photography and digital. It is an opportunity for artists at every stage of their career to showcase their work in a professional gallery setting and to be part of Shropshire’s growing creative community.

An exciting range of prizes for all media and disciplines will be on offer including the star prize of your own solo show at the Gateway Gallery.

Entries have been extended till midnight on Monday 3rd November 2025. The first entry costs £15, with up to three additional works at £5 each (maximum of four per artist). If selected, work must be delivered to the gallery Monday 10th or Tuesday 11th November 1-4pm.

The Gateway Gallery is run by the charity SADAA Arts, which supports inclusive arts outreach projects in the local community. Recently we have run projects with Shropshire Supports Refugees and the Shrewsbury Ark. All proceeds go directly to this charity.

How to Enter

Entry Fees

  • First artwork submission: £15

  • Each additional submission: £5

Please purchase one Initial Submission and then as many Additional Submissions as you need. For example, if you want to enter three pieces, purchase one Initial Submission (£15) and two Additional Submissions (£5 each).

Step 2: Upload your artwork

After completing your payment, please return to this page and fill out the submission form below to upload your artwork.

(If entering multiple works, this form will need completing for each piece so we have all of the correct information)

A 30% commission will be taken from any work sold during the event.
This goes directly towards supporting The Gateway Gallery and covering the costs of running exhibitions like this one.
We’ve kept the rate lower than many galleries to make it as fair as possible for artists while still helping to fund future creative opportunities.
