At the heart of everything we do is

Each exhibition, event and workshop is about creating a space where people can meet, share ideas, and encounter new perspectives.

The gallery is volunteer-run and shaped by local people, which means there is always a real sense of community behind the walls.

Our exhibitions are free to visit because we believe art should be accessible. We show original work chosen with care, across a mix of styles and voices, work that feels honest, thoughtful, and rooted in real experience.

If you’ve ever popped in, brought a friend, discovered an artist you love, or simply enjoyed having a gallery like this in the middle of town, donating is one way to help keep it all going.

Why donate?

Your support helps us keep doing the things that make the gallery what it is:

  • Keeping exhibitions free and genuinely welcoming

  • Supporting both emerging and established artists

  • Hosting events, talks and artist-led workshops

  • Backing community-focused projects and inclusive outreach

  • Covering the real, often invisible costs of running a gallery, from installation to print and promotion

You might not notice all of these costs as a visitor. We feel them every time we put a show on.

Monthly support makes a big difference

If you are able to give regularly, monthly support has the greatest impact.

It allows us to plan ahead, programme exhibitions with confidence, and keep the gallery feeling alive rather than fragile. Even a small amount each month adds up, and gives us the breathing room to do things properly.

Where your support goes

The Gateway Gallery is supported by Shrewsbury and District Arts Association. The charity supports inclusive arts outreach across the local community, and funds raised through the gallery go directly back into that work.

Recent examples of the kind of programme your support helps make possible include:

  • Open calls and community exhibitions such as The Salopian Open, welcoming work across all media and giving artists a professional space to show

  • Partnerships like Sense of Place with CPRE Shropshire, celebrating places people care about through exhibitions, workshops and talks

  • Community shows such as ArtNow!, showcasing work by students of Lucy Caddel and celebrating the joy of making art locally

The gallery sits inside the Gateway Centre and is designed to be practical and accessible, with wheelchair access and an on-site café.

Thank you!

Donating is not the only way to support us. Visiting exhibitions, bringing a friend, sharing a post, or telling someone new to pop in all makes a difference.

But if you are in a position to give, thank you. You are helping keep exhibitions accessible, artists visible, and a volunteer-led gallery thriving in the heart of Shrewsbury.
