A colourful new exhibition has opened at the Gateway Gallery, showcasing artwork created by students of local artist and educator Lucy Caddel (@lucycaddel_art).
Curated across the full spectrum of the rainbow, the display celebrates a year since Lucy launched her solo venture Shropshire Tropicalia. Every student from her weekly classes and workshops has contributed a favourite piece, resulting in a vibrant mix of paintings and drawings that reflect the joy and creativity her sessions inspire.
Lucy trained at Goldsmiths College and the University of Newcastle, and has nearly twenty years’ teaching experience both in the UK and abroad. Her local classes range from short weekly sessions to full-day workshops and plein air painting at venues like Attingham Park and Rowton Vineyard. Students describe her as “the art teacher you wish you had at school” — a sentiment clearly reflected in the quality and enthusiasm of the work on show.
Visitors can also enjoy The Café on the Severn at the Gateway Centre, serving locally sourced food and excellent coffee. Artworks by Lucy and other local makers are available to buy through the café, with commissions supporting community arts outreach projects.
✨ Free entry. Everyone welcome.
